Born in Chicago, he attended Northwestern University and upon graduation went to work for the Associated Press, beginning a lifelong career in journalism that would include long periods at the \u003ci\u003eChicago Tribune\u003c\/i\u003e and \u003ci\u003eAdvertising Age\u003c\/i\u003e. \u003c\/p\u003e\u003cp\u003e\u003c\/p\u003e While at the \u003ci\u003eTribune\u003c\/i\u003e, Goldsborough began writing mysteries in the voice of Rex Stout, the creator of iconic sleuths Nero Wolfe and Archie Goodwin.
