Losing parents or closed loved ones was not an unusual experience for many of these students who were used to loss having come from neighborhoods plagued by violence, poverty, and segregation. The book explores the impact of Adventure Based Counseling (ABC) methods on the self-efficacies of students of color who have lost a parent at BELHS. Up until now there has been little research in ABC with this particular demographic. The General Self-Efficacy Scale (Schwarzer \u0026amp; Jerusalem, 1995) was used to measure the self-efficacies of the students before the group began and four weeks into the group. Results indicate that all students' scores increased during the ABC group but further research methods (i.e. interviews) would be needed to attribute the change to the ABC group.
