He earned his Ph.D. from Indiana University in 1971. He taught at Wayne State University in Detroit, broadening his studies to labor lore and music. \u003cb\u003eJoanne C. Reuss\u003c\/b\u003e studied folklore with Ellen Stekert as an undergraduate at Wayne State University.
