His first novel, \u003ci\u003eA Brighter Sun\u003c\/i\u003e, was published in 1952, bringing him instant recognition. He spent more than twenty years in the UK where he wrote most of his major works. \u003ci\u003eThe Lonely Londoners\u003c\/i\u003e, his novel about West Indian immigrants in postwar London, is considered a modern classic. His other novels include \u003ci\u003eMoses Ascending\u003c\/i\u003e and \u003ci\u003eMoses Migrating\u003c\/i\u003e.
