His graphic memoir \u003ci\u003eThe High Desert\u003c\/i\u003e, about being Black in small-town California and finding salvation in punk, came out in 2022. \u003c\/p\u003e\u003cp\u003e\u003c\/p\u003e\u003cb\u003eCHRIS L. TERRY\u003c\/b\u003e is the author of the novel \u003ci\u003eBlack Card\u003c\/i\u003e, one of NPR's best books of 2019. Terry's debut novel \u003ci\u003eZero Fade\u003c\/i\u003e was on Best of 2013 lists by \u003ci\u003eSlate\u003c\/i\u003e and \u003ci\u003eKirkus Reviews\u003c\/i\u003e. Born in 1979 to a Black father and white mother, Terry spent his late teens and early twenties touring as the vocalist for different Richmond, Virginia punk bands. He has a Creative Writing MFA from Columbia College Chicago, and now lives and teaches in Los Angeles.
