Traveling north on the river, the bend gives the illusion of a point of land projecting out into the water, hence the early Colonial name Point-No-Point. In 1800, Joseph Kirkbride envisioned a community at the mouth of Frankford Creek and purchased a large farm for his plan. He laid out lots and roads and operated a ferry across the creek, and with the passing of time, the village reached southward toward Philadelphia.
