In a story of local practice and\u003cbr\u003eglobal flow, Wesolowski offers an intimate portrait of the game and what it\u003cbr\u003emeans in people's lives. She reveals camaraderie and conviviality in the\u003cbr\u003ecapoeira ring as well as tensions and ruptures involving race, gender, and\u003cbr\u003ecompeting claims over how this artful play should be practiced. Capoeira brings\u003cbr\u003epeople together and yet is never free of histories of struggle, and these too\u003cbr\u003eplay out in the game's encounters.\u003cbr\u003eIn her at once clear-sighted and\u003cbr\u003ehopeful analysis, Wesolowski ultimately argues that capoeira offers\u003cbr\u003eopportunities for connection, dialogue, and collaboration in a world that is\u003cbr\u003eincreasingly fractured.
