The six participating writers and poets were commissioned in 2021 and early 2022 with the assistance of \u003cb\u003eMarcin Orliński\u003c\/b\u003e and translated from Polish into English by \u003cb\u003eAntonia Lloyd-Jones\u003c\/b\u003e.\u003c\/p\u003e\u003cp\u003eThe publication, in a folder emblazoned with \u003cb\u003eGrant's\u003c\/b\u003e neon sculpture \u003ci\u003esoc som\u003c\/i\u003e, features six fold-out posters of \u003cb\u003eGrant's\u003c\/b\u003e painted works and an accompanying booklet of the poems or texts of each author, with an introduction by \u003cb\u003eMarcin Orliński\u003c\/b\u003e, in Polish and English.\u003c\/p\u003e\u003cp\u003eThe writers and poets featured in \u003cb\u003eGrant's\u003c\/b\u003e painted \u003ci\u003eCosmos\u003c\/i\u003e span generations and levels of recognition--\u003cb\u003eTokarczuk\u003c\/b\u003e is the winner of the 2019 Nobel Prize in Literature--and they highlight the current Polish writing scene, as each interprets an aspect of the cosmos. \u003cb\u003eGrant\u003c\/b\u003e created one painting for each text, interpreting them into large-scale works on paper. At 3.9 meters tall and 3 meters wide or larger, these are the largest works she has ever created. Together, the six installed paintings create a chapel space--and quite literally a cosmos--for and of women's voices.
