His name is mentioned by \u003cem\u003eSvāmi\u003c\/em\u003e \u003cem\u003eSvātmārāma\u003c\/em\u003e in his classical text \u003cem\u003eHatha\u003c\/em\u003e \u003cem\u003eYoga\u003c\/em\u003e \u003cem\u003ePradipīkā\u003c\/em\u003e (Chapter One, Verses 4 and 5). He is also one of the Masters mentioned in the \u003cem\u003ePurānas\u003c\/em\u003e and yogic texts. He is well known as Guru \u003cem\u003eGorakhanāth\u003c\/em\u003e, and a highly respected, revered and worshipped spiritual master in India and Nepal. The followers of the \u003cem\u003eNāth\u003c\/em\u003e Tradition worship him as the incarnation of Lord \u003cem\u003eŚiva\u003c\/em\u003e, and say that the nine \u003cem\u003eNāths\u003c\/em\u003e and eighty-four \u003cem\u003eSiddhas\u003c\/em\u003e belong to \u003cem\u003eAdinātha\u003c\/em\u003e, Lord \u003cem\u003eŚiva\u003c\/em\u003e. So, he is also called \u003cem\u003eŚiva\u003c\/em\u003e \u003cem\u003eGorakśa\u003c\/em\u003e, the founder of the \u003cem\u003eNatha\u003c\/em\u003e \u003cem\u003eSiddha\u003c\/em\u003e tradition.\u003c\/p\u003e \u003cp\u003eIt is said that \u003cem\u003eGorakśanātha\u003c\/em\u003e was an Eighth Century \u003cem\u003eSiddha\u003c\/em\u003e \u003cem\u003eYogī\u003c\/em\u003e. But some say that his physical presence occurred somewhere from the 8th to 11th century. It was Guru \u003cem\u003eGorakśanātha\u003c\/em\u003e who summarized the yogic subject matter in two hundred verses, which he had received from his Guru \u003cem\u003eMastsyendranāth\u003c\/em\u003e, based on the teachings of \u003cem\u003eŚri Ādinātha\u003c\/em\u003e (Lord \u003cem\u003eŚiva\u003c\/em\u003e).
