One of the reasons for low ranges of Wifi networks is low gain omni antennas being used with the Access points. It is anticipated that Wifi networks can be extended to few kilometers by replacing low gain omni antennas with those of high gain directional antennas . With this perspective, a Wifi base station antenna capable of achieving transmission ranges upto few kilometers (5-8km) with point to multipoint topology has been designed efficiently.
