To evaluate the effectiveness of Canadian policies in helping low-income, lone parent families, Terrance Hunsley compares the final income of five different types of families in ten countries and draws on interviews conducted with lone parents in the same set of countries. \u003c\/p\u003e\u003cp\u003e\u003c\/p\u003eLone parent families are vulnerable to lower living standards in all the countries studied, but the highest poverty rates among such families occur in the English-speaking world. On a variety of poverty measures, lone parent families are better off in the Netherlands, Sweden, Germany, and France than in the United Kingdom, Australia, Canada, and the United States.
