Eugene Bierbaum received his Ph.D. in communication theory from the University of Missouri in 1965 and served as the tenth president of AIP during 1976-1978. During 1979-1983 he served as curriculum director for the first AIP Practicums offered at the College of William and Mary. He served as accrediting director during 1981-1984 and education director during 1997-2000. Fol-lowing twenty-five years of teaching communication studies at the State Uni-versity of New York, he retired in 1992 with the title of professor emeritus. Dur-ing 1991-2001 he chaired a committee to write the Joint Code of Ethics that was subsequently adopted by the American Institute of Parliamentarians and the National Association of Parliamentarians.
