It summarizes the basic aspects of surfaces in general and describes the theoretical and experimental tools necessary to investigate cell adhesion, including the basic biochemistry and molecular biology of adhesion. The book offers concise treatment of individual topics, features current material, and provides key references as a guide to further study.

Author Biography

Peter D. Richardson, Ph.D., D.Sc.(Eng.), D.Sc., F.R.S., received his B.Sc. in engineering from the Imperial Collect of Science, Technology and Medicine of the University of London in 1955, and his Ph.D. from the same institution in 1958. Immediately afterward he joined Brown University, where he has been a professor of engineering since 1968 and professor of engineering and physiology since 1984. He is the author or co-author of more than 180 scientific and engineering publications.

Manfred Steiner, M.D., Ph.D., received his M.D. from the University of Vienna in 1955 and his Ph.D. in biochemistry from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology in 1967. He joined Brown University in 1968 as an assistant professor, became an associate professor in 1972 and professor of medicine in 1978. In 1982 he was appointed section leader of the Division of Hematology, Brown University, and Director, Division of Hematology/Oncology at Memorial Hospital of Rhode Island. Dr. Steiner is author or co-author of more than 150 research papers and book chapters, most regarding the subject of platelet function.

Number of Pages: 400

Dimensions: 0.82 x 10 x 7 IN

Publication Date: January 28, 2019
