Through his life, Simmons has experienced near death experiences for himself, bankruptcy, violence in his neighborhood and death of friends. Simmons has been called a poet from Generation X. The lost, the hungry, the ones searching for hope and finding it all in precarious places. Finding solace in death, drugs, lust, God and writing.
