Belgians, arriving in the early 1900s, \u003cbr\u003edeveloped truck farming--growing fruits and vegetables \u003cbr\u003eto sell every week at the farmers' market in Detroit. Farm \u003cbr\u003eculture prevailed until the 1950s, when large industrial \u003cbr\u003eplants began moving in, bringing with them workers and \u003cbr\u003ea need for housing and city services.
