For a time he was forced to retire from public view, but he emerged after the 1973 war, when he was appointed literary editor of Cairo's \u003ci\u003eAl Ahram\u003c\/i\u003e newspaper. His stories are powerful reflections of both the experiences of his own rebellious life and his concern with social injustice. \u003c\/p\u003e\u003cp\u003e\u003c\/p\u003e\u003cb\u003eEzzedine C. Fishere\u003c\/b\u003e (foreword) is the author of eight Arabic novels, mostly depicting Egyptian social and political transformations. Two of his novels were nominated for the Arabic Booker Prize (2008 and 2011) and another work was turned into an Arabic TV series. His novel \u003ci\u003eEmbrace at Brooklyn Bridge\u003c\/i\u003e, about identity construction and shifts, was translated to English (2017) and \u003ci\u003eItalian \u003c\/i\u003e(2019). \u003ci\u003eThe Egyptian Assassin\u003c\/i\u003e, a novel on politics and violence, was published in English (2019).
