For many years she taught at the Tavistock Clinic in London, where her main academic interest was in the relevance of psychoanalytic ideas to an understanding of the stories people tell about themselves. She co-edited \u003ci\u003eAcquainted with the Night: psychoanalysis and the poetic imagination \u003c\/i\u003e(2003). Her retrospective, \u003ci\u003eStitching the Dark: New \u0026amp; Selected Poems\u003c\/i\u003e (2005) drew on five previous collections, two of which were Poetry Book Society Recommendations. Her translation, \u003ci\u003eMahabharata: A Modern Retelling\u003c\/i\u003e (W.W.
