How Do I Keep BooksCloud Books Separate From My Existing Products in My Store's Navigation?

When you add books to a store that already sells other things, you'll almost certainly want books to have their own place in your navigation — not scattered through your main product collection, but in a dedicated section customers can browse intentionally. Doing this in Shopify is straightforward and requires no coding.

Step 1: Create a Dedicated Books Collection

The first step is to create a "Books" collection in Shopify that will hold only your BooksCloud titles. Here's how:

1. In your Shopify admin, go to Products → Collections

2. Click Create collection

3. Name it "Books" (or something more specific to your niche, like "Wellness Books" or "Cooking Titles")

4. Set the collection type to Manual if you want full control over which books are included, or Automated using a tag that BooksCloud applies to your books (such as the product tag you assign when adding books)

5. Save the collection

If you use Automated collections with a tag, any book you add from BooksCloud with that tag will automatically appear in the collection — useful if you're adding large numbers of titles.

Step 2: Assign BooksCloud Books to the Collection

For individual books you add through BooksCloud's Individual Search, you can assign them to your Books collection during the product editing stage in Shopify. For books added via Bulk Sync, you can apply a tag to all books in a particular sync so that your Automated collection picks them up automatically.

The key is not assigning BooksCloud books to your existing product collections. Shopify does not do this automatically — books only appear in a collection if you explicitly assign them. So your existing collections remain book-free unless you put books in them yourself.

Step 3: Add the Books Collection to Your Navigation

Once the collection exists, you can add it to your store's navigation menu:

1. In your Shopify admin, go to Online Store → Navigation

2. Select the navigation menu you want to edit (usually "Main menu")

3. Click Add menu item

4. Name it "Books" (or your preferred label)

5. Under "Link," select Collections and choose your Books collection

6. Save the menu

Your store's navigation will now have a dedicated Books section that sits alongside your other menu items, completely separate from your existing product categories.

Using Dropdown Menus for More Organization

If you plan to carry books across multiple genres or categories, you can use Shopify's dropdown navigation to create subcategories under a "Books" parent menu item. For example:

  • Books

- Fiction

- Cooking

- Self-Help

- Kids Books

Each of these would link to its own collection. This approach works well if you're adding a large number of titles and want customers to be able to browse by category rather than scrolling through one massive list.

Keeping Books Out of Your "All Products" Page

One thing to note: Shopify has a default "All Products" collection that includes every product in your store. BooksCloud books will appear there unless you manually exclude them (which isn't a standard Shopify feature without customization). If this is a concern, you can set your main store navigation to link to specific collections rather than the All Products page, which gives you clean separation between books and your other merchandise.

The Bottom Line

Keeping BooksCloud books separate in your store navigation takes just a few minutes using Shopify's built-in collection and navigation tools. Create a dedicated Books collection, assign your books to it, and add it to your navigation menu as its own item. Your existing navigation remains untouched, and customers have a clear, dedicated path to browse your book selection.
