How Does BooksCloud Know When One of My Customers Places a Book Order?

You don't have to forward orders manually or log into a separate dashboard to push orders to BooksCloud. The entire process is automatic, handled through Shopify's native app infrastructure.

The Shopify–BooksCloud Connection

When you install BooksCloud, it connects to your Shopify store via Shopify's API. As part of that connection, BooksCloud registers to receive order webhooks — essentially real-time notifications that Shopify sends whenever something happens in your store.

When a customer completes checkout and purchases a book, Shopify immediately sends an order webhook to BooksCloud. BooksCloud receives it, identifies which line items are BooksCloud products (based on the product IDs it originally created when you added the books), and creates a corresponding fulfillment order on its end.

You Don't Have to Do Anything

This handoff is invisible to you as a merchant. From your perspective:

1. Customer orders a book.

2. The order appears in your Shopify Orders panel as normal.

3. BooksCloud simultaneously receives the order and places it in a 24-hour hold.

4. After 24 hours, BooksCloud processes and fulfills the order.

5. A tracking number is sent back to Shopify automatically.

There's no manual step required from you at any point in this chain.

What If the Order Has Non-BooksCloud Items Too?

If a customer orders a BooksCloud book alongside one of your own products (say, a candle or a t-shirt), Shopify handles this through its multi-fulfillment system. BooksCloud only sees and processes the line items that belong to it. Your other items fulfill through your normal process. The customer receives separate tracking for each fulfillment if needed.

What About the BooksCloud Admin?

You can also monitor orders through the BooksCloud admin backend at splitshops.com/manage. This gives you a view of all your BooksCloud orders, their statuses (hold, fulfillment, shipped, cancelled), and any issues that arise. But you don't need to log in there for orders to flow — it's a monitoring tool, not a required action hub.

The Bottom Line

BooksCloud knows about your orders because Shopify tells it — automatically, instantly, every time. The integration is designed so that fulfillment happens without any manual intervention on your part. Once you're set up, the order pipeline runs itself.
