What Happens If a Book Ordered Through BooksCloud Arrives Damaged — Is There a Return or Replacement Process?

Damaged shipments are an unavoidable reality in any physical goods business. BooksCloud has a clear policy for damaged books, and it is merchant-friendly: free replacement or refund within 14 days of delivery, no argument, no restocking fee.

The Damaged Book Policy

If a customer receives a book that arrives damaged or has a manufacturing defect — torn pages, damaged spine, printing errors, water damage from transit — BooksCloud will either replace the book and ship a new copy at no additional charge, or issue a refund for the book cost. This applies within 14 days of the delivery date. The customer does not need to return the damaged copy.

What You Need to Do as the Merchant

When a customer reports a damaged book:

1. Collect photos of the damage from your customer — photos of the damaged book and packaging are required to process the claim

2. Contact BooksCloud merchant support with the order details, photos, and whether you want a replacement or refund

3. BooksCloud processes the claim and either ships the replacement or credits your account

What Is Not Covered

BooksCloud's replacement policy does not cover:

  • Buyer's remorse — A customer who changed their mind cannot return it for a refund. Many books are print-on-demand, which makes open returns economically impossible.
  • Wrong address or wrong book ordered — If the customer provided an incorrect address or ordered the wrong title, that is not eligible for a free replacement
  • Claims beyond 14 days — Claims submitted more than 14 days after delivery are generally not covered

There is one additional protection: if tracking shows no movement for 15 days to the correct address, BooksCloud will reship at no charge.

What to Tell Your Customers

Include a note in your shipping or returns policy explaining that damage claims must be reported within 14 days with photos. This sets expectations and gives you the documentation needed to file the claim with BooksCloud.
