If your store is already processing orders — real customer purchases, real revenue, real fulfillment workflows — the idea of installing any new app carries some legitimate risk. Will it reroute open orders? Will it touch pending fulfillments? Will it quietly change something in your shipping setup?
These are reasonable things to check before installing anything. Here's the complete picture of what BooksCloud does and doesn't affect when it's added to an active store.
Your Existing Orders Are Not Affected
BooksCloud does not read, modify, route, or interact with any orders that were placed before you installed it — or with any orders containing products that weren't added through BooksCloud. It has no access to or interest in your existing order queue.
If you have 50 open orders processing through your current fulfillment system when you install BooksCloud, all 50 of those orders will continue processing exactly as they were. BooksCloud doesn't intercept them, doesn't flag them, and doesn't touch them.
BooksCloud Only Handles Orders That Contain BooksCloud Books
The way BooksCloud integrates with Shopify is product-specific. When a customer places an order that includes a book from your BooksCloud catalog, BooksCloud's fulfillment system picks up that line item and routes it through their pick/pack/ship process. Orders that contain only your existing (non-BooksCloud) products go through your existing fulfillment workflow, unchanged.
This is not a setting you configure — it's just how Shopify's fulfillment routing works by default. Products are linked to their fulfillment service at the product level, so the order routing happens automatically based on what's in the cart.
Your Current Fulfillment Workflow Stays the Same
If you currently fulfill orders yourself, through a 3PL, or through another app, that process continues exactly as it always has. BooksCloud adds a parallel track for book orders — it does not replace, override, or intersect with your existing fulfillment logic.
The only addition to your Shopify backend is a new BooksCloud shipping profile in your Shopify shipping settings. This profile applies only to BooksCloud book products. You can configure it to charge shipping on books or set it to free — but it doesn't affect any existing shipping profiles you already have.
What the Order Timeline Looks Like for Book Orders Going Forward
Once BooksCloud is installed and you've added books to your store, here's how book orders flow:
1. Customer places an order containing a BooksCloud book
2. BooksCloud holds the order for 24 hours (allows for address changes or cancellations)
3. After 24 hours, the order goes to fulfillment — BooksCloud charges your account and begins processing
4. The book is picked, packed, and shipped via USPS Media Mail
5. A tracking number is sent back to Shopify automatically and the order is marked fulfilled
None of this touches any other part of your store's operations. It runs as its own parallel process.
The Short Version
Adding BooksCloud to a store with existing orders and fulfillment workflows is safe. It is entirely additive — it creates a new fulfillment path for book orders going forward, and leaves everything else exactly as it is. Your current orders, your current workflow, and your current shipping configuration are not affected in any way.
