Book authors, publishers, or distributors may ask for a book to be taken down for a variety of reasons, including rights restrictions, territory limitations, or changes in distribution agreements. A title may also need to be removed if it is out of print, no longer available, recalled, delayed, or replaced by a newer edition. In other cases, takedown requests happen because of incorrect metadata, duplicate listings, pricing conflicts, unauthorized editions, counterfeit concerns, or legal and compliance issues. Sometimes the request simply reflects a publisher’s sales strategy, such as limiting where a title can be sold or ending supply to a particular channel.
