Tales of the Arizona Rangers. The Rangers were organized in 1901 to combat the lawlessness in Arizona Territory which was denying statehood to the territory. At first there were only 12 men authorized, but that was soon changed to 26 men to patrol over 100,000 sq. miles of the Arizona Territory. These are some tales of how the Rangers cleaned up Arizona and allowed it to become the 48th state on Valentines day in 1912.
