by Jenny Dowde (Author)

"Take your yarn for a walk," says author Jenny Dowde, who teaches the freeform "scrumbling" technique. With scrumbling, needleworkers can work unbound by patterns and yet still successfully knit or crochet a project. With just a range of simple stitches and only a few basic techniques, anyone can create lovely and useful household objects and eye-catching wearable art. Full-color photographs illustrate Dowde's methods in action, from completing both basic and advanced stitches to working with wires and beads, along with a host of special techniques, including constructing buttons, unusual closures, and special accents from polymer clay.

Author Biography

Jenny Dowde's first two books, Freeform Knitting and Crochet (2004) and then Freeformations (2006) have been very successful around the world. From NSW, Australia, Jenny completed 6 years at art school and a course in machine knitting. Jenny has lectured on Color, Design and Creative Knitting at knitting seminars around Australia. She has participated in Australian Textile Fiber Forum computer design workshops. She has also made polymer clay buttons for a designer knitwear company and taught polymer clay workshops at various Fiber Forums in Australia. In 1997 she discovered the wonderful medium, "scrumbling" or freeform crochet, with the only equipment required being a hook and lots of yarn! She now combines knitting with crochet in her freeform work. Since 2000 she has been teaching the 'scrumbling' technique throughout Australia and selling freeform designs in Australia and the USA.
