Drawing on sources such as diaries, poetry and weblogs and using gender as an analytic category, the book looks at men's and women's experiences of war 'at home' and 'at the front' and spans the two World Wars, the Vietnam War and the war in Iraq.

Author Biography

CAROL ACTON is an Assistant Professor in the Department of English at St Jerome's University, Waterloo, Canada. Her primary research area is gender and war. She has published on Vera Brittain's wartime correspondence and on nurses' writing from the First World War and the Vietnam War.
