An old family Bible is the only thing siblings Anahid and Hrant manage to save when they are forced to flee their hometown on the Black Sea coast during the Armenian genocide of 1915. One hundred years later, in Yerevan, the Bible comes into the hands of Helen Mazavián, a German restorer of Armenian origin. Intrigued by a note scribbled in the margins--"Hrant does not wake up"--Helen delves into the mysteries of the book and the country, and sets off on a journey to the Black Sea coast in search of her own origins.

Author Biography

Katerina Poladjan nació en Moscú, creció entre Roma y Viena y reside en Alemania. Escribe novela, teatro y ensayo. Ha sido nominada al Premio Alfred Döblin y al Premio de Literatura de la Unión Europea, y participó en el Festival de Literatura Alemana de Klagenfurt en 2015. Por Hier sind Löwen (Aquí hay leones), recibió becas del Fondo Alemán de Literatura, el Senado de Berlín y la Academia Cultural Tarabya de Estambul. En 2025, Katerina Poladjan fue galardonada con el «Gran Premio del Fondo de Literatura Alemana».

Katerina Poladjan was born in Moscow, grew up between Rome and Vienna, and currently lives in Germany. She writes novels, plays, and essays. She has been nominated for the Alfred Döblin Prize and the European Union Prize for Literature, and participated in the German Literature Festival in Klagenfurt in 2015. For Hier sind Löwen (Here Be Lions), she received grants from the German Literature Fund, the Berlin Senate, and the Tarabya Cultural Academy in Istanbul. In 2025, Katerina Poladjan was awarded the Grand Prize of the German Literature Fund.
