Author Biography

I write best when I'm angry. I was born with an explosive temper which I have under control, but my anger simmers below the surface. Writing is my outlet. It's not a perfect system, but it allows me a creative outlet to handle my emotions. I'm a practicing stoic, but I have a long way to go before I can control my inner world. I emulate the strong, silent type like my Father. What that means is I'm the most quiet extrovert you will ever meet. I have a lot to say, but I understand the value in listening to others. I don't suffer fools and value deep conversation more than anything. I became a novelist after a business failure. I was at the breaking point and asked myself: Why am I doing this? Why am I putting myself under such stress and torment? I realized it was so I could retire and write novels. It was then that I decided to skip a step and become a novelist. I knew it was the right move when on Friday nights where I watched movies or played video games, I wanted to write instead. This is when you know you're on the right path. When you'd rather do the work on a Friday night or a Saturday morning, you've found your calling. I love to study of history, science, philosophy and economics. I believe these are all vital to creating rich, complex worlds that readers can explore and enjoy. It also greatly expands the conversations that you can have with other people. I seek wisdom everywhere. I record quotes, and ask tough questions both to myself and others. I reflect on what has happened so I can prepare for what will be. I will write what I want to write as an author. I love writing science fiction, but I also enjoy the idea of writing family sagas in the spirit of Pat Conroy or travel novels like James A. Michener's. I refuse to be boxed in, even if it costs me sales. I hope readers will enjoy my work and understand my desires as an author. I write to be free. I grew up on the edge of the wilderness. As such, I love tales about the wild, survival, hunting, and exploration. I listen to soundtracks because scenes unveil themselves before my eyes. I seek to travel the world. I believe that being a traveler, experiencing the sights, foods, and people of a place will add a richness and depth to my books that anyone can appreciate. I would love to become a nomadic novelist, but I also know that realistically I'll want my own home base to work from.
