In the dead of night, a novice discovers a woman in the forest with her clothes torn, screaming like a soul escaped from hell. Where has she been all this time? But Daniela isn't the only one who has disappeared. Young girls have been disappearing for years in Nuévalos and the town's inhabitants fear the tolling of the church bells, which herald the arrival of evil forces spreading terror in the streets. But not everyone believes in the diabolic nature of these forces. Dino D'Angelis, an agent of King Charles V, and Charlène Dubois, the imperial family's personal physician, are sent to Nuévalos to solve the mystery.
