The analysis and comparison of banking systems are the basis for understanding the evolution of management skills.

As known, the Italian banking system is currently undergoing a period of profound change. European directives have determined the recognition of the entrepreneurship of the banking business and the simultaneous loosening of formal and administrative constraints of Banca d'Italia with the consequent opening of the market to the competition of foreign banks.

It shows how the different context of the Italian banking system has led to a considerable delay in the management of personnel skills. Through the understanding of the solutions developed by Dutch "cousins", the elaboration of a strategy of management skills can be a valid support for a European market characterized by increasing competition.

Banking Systems Comparison: the differential development

The limit of the Italian banking system was the nature of the protected system. This initial stiffness, which stemmed from objective reasons to ensure the stability, the external efficiency and functional effectiveness of banks, has bound, over time, the development of the banking business.

The Dutch banking system has, however, developed in the sign of the liberalization of capital transactions and deregulation of national markets with the consequent increase in competition, already in the seventies and eighties; anticipating, in part, European directives.
