Xenia's ongoing exploration is mirrored by the journey of a 19th-century former resident of the town, reformer Camilla Wright, who is setting off with her famous author sister to establish a utopian community of their own, in hopes of ending slavery.

Both women's worlds are turned upside down by love and desire, and both will have to reckon with what they have seen and felt in the woods outside of Harmonie and all its heart-wrenching twists and turns.
