Author Biography

Malik Canty is a Retired Teacher, Spiritual Poet, and Author, who speaks for the voiceless. Known around the poetry circuit as the Word Bird, Malik has performed in various places, such as The Apollo Theatre, Brooklyn Academy of Music, The Shomburg Cultural Center and McDonalds Gospelfest. He has also been published in several magazines, newsletters and anthologies; and been a featured Poet on 89.9 FM radio. In addition, Malik "Word Bird" Canty is the author of "Who Hears the Poet When He Weeps?"; "Poetic Fire"; and "Words From The River," of which Rev. Dr. Johnny Ray Youngblood dubbed him "prophetic in his poetry" and "Poet Laureate" of St. Paul Community Baptist Church, in the book's introduction. Word Bird writes to reveal the messages in his soul and as a witness of the durability of his people.
