Author Biography
Author Washington Irving (1783-1859) was an American writer of fiction, an essayist, satirist, and biographer. Today, he is best known for ''The Legend of Sleepy Hollow'' and ''Rip Van Winkle, '' short stories which appeared in his Sketchbook of Geoffrey Crayon, Gent. Illustrator Arthur Rackham (1867-1939) was a prominent English book illustrator, famed for his intricate pen-and-ink drawings that were combined with washes of watercolor.
