In The Pigeon and the Seagull, the author attempts to simplify and explain the events surrounding divorce and, ultimately, provide a positive glimpse into the future in a postmarriage relationship. Ideally, the story strives to help children understand that when relationships don't work out it is not their fault and they can still have wonderful lives in many ways.
