À La Recherche de Miracles: Pèlerines, Religion Vécue Et La Roumanie Postcommuniste - Paperback
by Monica Grigore-Dovlete (Author)
At the end of 1989, Romania was on a journey towards democracy. Since then, the country has undergone many changes, including a so-called religious renaissance.
Why is religion so prominent in post-communist Romanian society? What impacts has the increased presence of religion had on this society? In À la recherche de miracles: Pèlerines, religion vécue et la Roumanie postcommuniste, the author seeks answers to these questions on site by observing the faith and practices of women who embarked upon pilgrimages to Romanian monasteries renowned for their miracles, charismatic confessors, and relics. In her book the auhor explores four key elements of lived religion: fate, charisma, materiality and relics. What emerges is a portrait of religion in an orthodox context, which contributes to a better understanding of the rise of religion in Romania post-1989 and of the social transformations characteristic of the post-communist period.
