Author Biography
Carter Smith left Washington, DC for Kenya after she graduated from university to pursue her dream of being involved in African wildlife conservation. She spent her early years in East Africa rehabilitating birds of prey and completing her graduate work in ecology on Africa's largest eagle, the Martial Eagle. During one particularly hot and dusty dry season, Smith found herself desperate for the rains to come, despite knowing the challenges they would bring-her thatched-roof house would leak profusely, the swollen river would trap her in her home for days, and her jeep would undoubtedly get stuck in the thick black-cotton soil. Nevertheless, she longed for rain and the changes it would bring. It was at just such a time that Smith wrote her delightful children's book, African Tea.
