The homes they fashioned from the native limestone rock they found in the fields and creeks, stand today, protected by the National Register of historic Places. The school that moved from living rooms to a log cabin in 1851 has been in operation for 164 years. This is the inspiring history of their struggles, triumphs and heartaches, as they worked to build a community for themselves that would provide for their children and future generations.

Author Biography

I was born in Galion, a wonderful small town in Northern Ohio, in 1934, My love for words started very early in life. I dreamed of someday becoming a writer and spent hours searching for just the right words to describe the wonder and excitement I found in the world around me. I attended Ohio State and completed the first course with the Children's Institute of Literature while raising three children. I was in my 70's before I finally made my dream a reality by completing my first book. "Everyone's Child" is a memoir of my childhood during World War Two. It is a social history of the war as seen through the eyes of an American child. I keep my life as full and busy as possible. Illustrator, Debbi Kern and I, now have three delightful children's books on the market and a new one on the way. School and Library readings keep our calendar full. I write every day, maintaining at least two writing projects at all times. I find I am more productive when I demand more of myself. I take piano lessons and anxiously wait for spring each year to get into my garden. I also try very hard to learn how to use these infernal digital monsters. I have fleeting moments of glory when I find new information at my fingertips. I also find frustration and misery because they are so hard for me to use. I find them a blessing or a curse, depending on when you ask! I keep trying. I'm planning a podcast for the near future. We'll see how that goes. Other than an occasional outburst of temper over another abusive digital gadget, life is a joy and I look forward to every tomorrow.
