Satoshi Kitamura was born in Tokyo in 1956. He is a cartoonist and writer. He has published numerous children's books, many of which he wrote himself and many others in collaboration with prominent authors. His books have been translated into more than 20 different languages and have won awards such as the Mother Goose Award, the Smarties Prize Silver Award, and the National Art Library Illustrations Award. Some of his characters have been used to star in animated series.
