A personal experience of Tolstoy's own was the inspiration for The Snowstorm, which appeared in 1856 in the magazine The Contemporary. A blizzard surprises a traveler and his coachman in the Russian steppe and drives them astray. When the coachman decides to turn back, the traveler joins a caravan where he meets a series of diverse characters. An early work by the great Russian author that, in its brevity, addresses themes such as overcoming obstacles, vanity, and the search for recognition.

Author Biography

Zuzanna Celej is an artist who has exhibited her work in Spain, France, England, Poland, and the United States. She has also received numerous national and international awards. Zuzanna is a builder by illustrating and fabricating what has not yet been seen, composing her work on paper and with paper. When she was little, she created countless objects, gadgets, small machines, robots, articulated dolls, models of towns, houses, scenes, and so on, using all kinds of recycled, found, and treasured materials. Today, she continues to build with pencil and paintbrush, inventing incredible worlds and shaping impossible characters. Currently, Zuzanna combines her illustration projects with teaching, leading Fine Arts courses and workshops at art school master's programs. Lev Tolstoy was a Russian author and one of the most important novelists of all time. He is especially known for his two longest works, War and Peace and Anna Karenina, which are unanimously considered masterpieces. The son of a nobleman and a princess, Tolstoy was orphaned at a young age and went to live with aunts, who entrusted his education to private tutors. In his adolescence and youth, Tolstoy gave himself over to the debauchery of St. Petersburg, where he drank relentlessly, played cards, and frequented the company of women. However, after finishing university, he returned to the countryside and there, seeing the extremely harsh living conditions of the peasants, decided to change his life and joined the army. Happily married and now retired to the countryside, Tolstoy wrote his two greatest works. In both, the family plays a special role. In fact, the famous opening of Anna Karenina is particularly memorable: "All happy families are alike, but every unhappy family is unhappy in its own way."
