This book is devoted to a category of manuscripts known as proskynetaria which were used as guides mainly in the 17th and 18th centuries. The miniatures illustrating them depict towns and sacred places, churches and monasteries, caves, mountains and lakes, as well as events from the Holy Scriptures and ecclesiastical history and tradition. The proskynetaria are brilliant examples of folk art that form a basic source for Palestine during one period of its history.
