by Robert M. Johnson (Author)

In the short few years that he has been in France since 1356, William Burton has achieved greatness well beyond his youthful expectations. He is caught up in the political and social upheaval of Northern France and is quickly taking his place among the noblemen of his times. He has put together the elements of success, both military and financial. It is the Year of Our Lord, 1358. But his real destiny would be forcefully revealed in his reconnection with his brother, Thomas Burton, called The Arrowsmith. This is the story of their partnership and what it meant to the military and political world of Normandy, France. It is a story of genius, tenacity and grit. The Burton Story is told in volume one of this series: "The Archer's Revenge." A second volume describes Will Burton's rise as a military force in: "Striker King, Warhorse." The third volume, "Archer and Arrowsmith," extends the saga to include Will's brother Tom, called the Arrowsmith. This fourth volume, "The Archer's Lightning Arrows," chronicles their adventures as they gain the attention of Edward III the king of England.

Author Biography

Robert M. Johnson has had a lifelong love of medieval history. For eleven years he lived in a medieval monastery in France. Some of the buildings of that monastery were first built in the year 1133 A.D. and reflected the solid stone construction of the period. His life as a monk deepened his awareness of life in the Middle Ages: the attitudes, the social structure, the daily life of peasants and noblemen who were part of that exciting time. Living close to the cycles of nature, the seasons of planting and harvesting, set the tone for life in the medieval village. This is the fourth volume of the English Archer Series that features young Will Burton, an English Archer swept up into the thrilling times of feudal Europe. After the battle of Poitiers which was a decisive English victory, young Will and his comrades, Jack Singletary, Chris Colley and John Wegland challenged the renegade nobleman, Renald LeClerq. They took over his castle of Malfleur and under the leadership of young Will they began a new life in Normandy. In this present volume, Duke William Burton called upon to pledge fealty to the Warrior King of England, Edward III. The King is determined to make France his own and set in motion a full scale invasion of the country in 1359. He enlists the help of Duke William and his brother, Thomas Arrowsmith. Their adventures bring the English Archer to new challenges and feats of bravery.
