Not every merchant wants thousands of books. Sometimes you want twenty - the exact right twenty for your audience.
A wellness store might want the ten best-known yoga books plus a handful of meditation titles. A music merchandise store might want biographies of specific artists and a few books on music theory. A cooking supply store might want the 25 cookbooks that match its product range.
For this kind of curation, BooksCloud's individual search is the right tool.
When to Use Individual Search Instead of Bulk Sync
Use individual book search when:
- You want tight editorial control over what appears in your store
- You're selling 10-100 curated titles rather than an entire genre
- You need a specific edition of a book (exact ISBN)
- You're building a "Staff Picks" or "We Recommend" section
- You want to preview each title before adding it
Use bulk sync when you want full category coverage at scale. For everything else, the search bar is faster and more precise.
Step-by-Step: Adding Individual Books in BooksCloud
Step 1: Open BooksCloud from your Shopify admin. Navigate to your installed apps and click BooksCloud to open the catalog interface.
Step 2: Go to the search bar. The search bar is the primary way to find individual titles. You have three effective search methods:
- Keyword search - Enter a topic ('yoga', 'guitar', 'mindfulness') to see all matching titles. Useful when you want to browse within a theme rather than find a specific book.
- Author name - Enter an author's full or partial name to see all their available titles. Good for stocking a complete author catalog.
- ISBN - The most precise option. Enter the 13-digit ISBN (found on the back cover or copyright page of any book) and BooksCloud returns the exact edition.
Step 3: Preview the book before adding. Click any search result to see the full detail view: cover image, title, author, publisher, synopsis, ISBN, and the book cost you'll be charged. This is the same information that will appear in your Shopify product listing.
Review the synopsis to make sure the content is appropriate for your audience. Confirm the edition is correct. Check the price point works for your intended retail price.
Step 4: Click 'Add to Store'. One click. The book is immediately created as a product in your Shopify catalog with all metadata pre-filled:
- Product title: '[Book Title] by [Author Name]'
- Description: full publisher synopsis
- Images: official cover
- Tags: genre, author, series (where applicable)
- Product details: ISBN, publisher
Nothing to type. Nothing to format.
Step 5: Assign to a collection. In your Shopify admin, open the product and assign it to the appropriate collection - "Books", "Yoga Reading List", "Gift Ideas", whatever fits your store's structure. Or set up a Shopify automated collection rule so books tagged with a certain genre auto-populate a collection.
A Note on Editions
If you need a specific paperback vs. hardcover edition, use the ISBN. Different editions of the same title have different ISBNs, and BooksCloud's ISBN search will return the exact edition you're looking for.
For most merchants, keyword or title search is sufficient. But when a customer asks for the 10th Anniversary Edition of a specific title, ISBN search is the precise tool for the job.
How Long Does This Take?
For a curated selection of 25 books, expect to spend 15-30 minutes browsing, previewing, and adding. The product creation itself is instant - the time is in your curation decisions.
Compare that to building the same 25 listings manually: writing 25 synopses, finding 25 cover images, entering 25 sets of metadata. That's several hours of work that BooksCloud reduces to zero.
