How to Install and Set Up BooksCloud in Under 10 Minutes

One of the most common questions from merchants considering BooksCloud is: how long does setup actually take?

The honest answer: under 10 minutes from install to your first live book listing. This guide walks through every step so you know exactly what to expect.

What You'll Need Before You Start

  • An active Shopify store (any plan)
  • Admin access to your store
  • A few minutes of your time

That's it. No developer, no code, no upfront payment required.

Step 1: Find BooksCloud in the Shopify App Store (1 minute)

Go to the Shopify App Store at apps.shopify.com and search for BooksCloud. You can also go directly to apps.shopify.com/bookscloud.

Click Install. You'll be prompted to log in to your Shopify account if you aren't already.

Step 2: Authorize Permissions (1 minute)

Shopify will show you a permissions screen explaining what BooksCloud needs access to: products, orders, and fulfillment data. These permissions are standard for any dropshipping app.

Click Install app to confirm. BooksCloud is now connected to your store.

Step 3: Browse the Catalog (2-3 minutes)

Once inside BooksCloud, you'll land on the catalog interface. From here you can:

  • Search by keyword - type a topic like "yoga" or "personal finance" and browse matching titles
  • Search by title or author - useful if you already know which books you want to carry
  • Search by ISBN - precise lookup for specific editions

Each result shows the book cover, title, author, publisher, synopsis, and the book cost. You can see exactly what your customer will see and what you'll pay before adding anything.

Step 4: Add Your First Book or Category (2-3 minutes)

Option A - Add an individual book: Click the book you want, review the details, and click Add to Store. The product appears in your Shopify catalog instantly, with all metadata pre-filled.

Option B - Bulk sync a category: Navigate to the Categories section, choose a genre or sub-genre (for example, "Self-Help" or "Cookbooks"), and click Bulk Sync. BooksCloud queues all available titles in that category and creates Shopify product listings for each one. The full sync typically completes in 10-15 minutes, but your first listings appear within seconds.

Step 5: Set Your Pricing Rule (1 minute)

BooksCloud applies a default 1.25× markup on the book cost, which is automatically reflected in your Shopify product prices.

To adjust this, open the Price Adjuster in BooksCloud settings. You can set a multiplier (e.g., 1.4× for a 40% markup) or a flat markup amount. The adjustment applies across your catalog and updates product prices in Shopify automatically.

Step 6: Review an Imported Product Listing (1 minute)

Go to Products in your Shopify admin and open any book you just imported. You'll see:

  • Product title in '[Title] by [Author]' format
  • Full publisher synopsis as the product description
  • Official cover image
  • ISBN in product details
  • Auto-generated tags (genre, author, series where applicable)
  • Price already set based on your markup rule

Everything is ready. You can publish as-is or customize any field before going live.

Step 7: Publish Your Collection

Create a collection in Shopify (e.g., "Books" or "Recommended Reading") and assign your imported books to it. Add the collection to your store navigation. Done.

Your books are now live and purchasable by customers.

What Happens When a Customer Orders

You don't need to do anything.

  1. Customer places an order on your Shopify store
  2. BooksCloud receives automatic notification of the order
  3. After a 24-hour hold period (which allows for cancellations or corrections), BooksCloud charges your payment method for the book cost plus the $7 shipping fee
  4. The publisher or BooksCloud warehouse picks, packs, and ships the order
  5. Tracking information is generated and pushed back to Shopify automatically
  6. Your customer receives a Shopify order confirmation email with their tracking number
  7. The book arrives in 3-7 business days in white-label "Your Book Order" packaging

Your role in the fulfillment process: zero. BooksCloud handles everything from charge to delivery.

That's It

From Shopify App Store to live book listing: under 10 minutes.

One merchant who was among the first to use the app described it this way: "Perfect installation! Well coded app/website to find and load the products I wanted. Simple keyword filtering of what seems like an endless stock of books. Also, adds new books based on keywords constantly so you don't have to manage it."

The setup simplicity is intentional. BooksCloud is built so that getting started doesn't require technical expertise - it requires about the same effort as setting up a new email account.
